Why memory foam?

Memory Foam material consists of millions of open, spherical-shaped cells that are visco elastic, meaning solid with liquid properties. This visco elastic property, in addition to the foam’s temperature and weight sensitivity, enable the cells to shift position and reorganise to conform to body contours. The material softens in warmer areas where the body makes the most contact with the surface, and remains firmer in cooler areas, where less contact is made. By absorbing and evenly distributing a body’s weight over its surface, the material eliminates uncomfortable pressure points.

Is a memory foam mattress good for bad backs and joint problems?

Yes, a memory mattress will help to support and cushion the problems making it more comfortable to sleep, giving you an even pressure along all your body. Our high density slow response visco-elastic foam is one of the best in the bedding industry.

  What does 70Kg/m3 mean?

The higher the kg/m3, the higher the quality of memory foam is. Some online retailers sell Memory Foam Mattresses with a density as low as 25kg/m3 - BEWARE!

Are they ok for slatted bases?

Yes, any bed base that is firm is ideal. The slats will not cause any problems. It is a false economy to put a new mattress on a very old bed base, please contact us if you would like advice on the type of base you should use.

Can I use an electric blanket?

In the long term it can break down the memory cells, as memory foam is temperature sensitive we would not recommend the use of an electric blanket. An electric blanket can be used with the foam only mattress Aloe Comfort.

Why are your mattresses so inexpensive?

Buying direct from us cuts out the retailer’s margins, meaning you get the best product and the best value for money.

Will my Memory Foam Mattress smell when new?

The memory foam can give off a totally harmless odour for a few days after unpacking. Whilst the majority of people can't smell this, if you are sensitive, it may be a good idea to air the mattress in a well ventilated room for a day or two before sleeping on it.

What do I need to do to care for my memory foam mattress?

Once you have opened the vacuum packaging, you will probably be wondering why the mattress is around 3" tall! During the vacuum packing process, the mattress has all the air sucked out of it until it is the size you receive it at. This makes shipping the mattress a lot easier! Over the next 4 - 6 hours the mattress will 'inflate' to its true dimensions. You should be aware that once you undo the vacuum sealing, the mattress will also get a lot harder to move around - you will probably want to undo the packaging in the same room the mattress will be used in. After this just rotate the mattress as you feel it needs it. This will help prolong the life of the mattress.

Do you offer a free trial?

We don't offer trials of our products as we are selling at direct prices. The cost of giving a free trial would have to be passed on to every consumer which we believe is very unfair. All new mattresses will have an adjustment period where your body gets used to the new support.  This is normally no longer than a month. All our mattresses are brand new and direct from the factory.

Is there a warranty on the mattress?

All The Healthy Mattress Company mattresses carry a full 12 month guarantee.

Is the cover washable?

Yes, the cover on the Aloe Caress and Aloe Embrace can be zipped off and washed a 40°C, although we do not recommend regular washing.

Does the mattress comply with a fire and safety regulations?

Our mattresses fully comply with UK furniture and safety regulations. BEWARE of some products which are imported and do not comply with the UK regulations.

How do I place an order?

You can purchase either online through our secure shopping site or call one of our dedicated sales team on 0845 257 2955

Can you feel the difference between the various densities of memory foam products?

Yes, there is a clear difference.  The greater the density of the memory foam product, the more support it offers and the more it will conform to your body.

Why should I purchase a memory foam mattress from your website when I have not tried the product?

The memory foam mattresses sold on this website are of the highest quality in the industry, we are renowned for our exceptional service. We have ensured that there is as much information as possible in order to make a final decision. If you have a question that you can't find the answer to, we welcome your call on 0845 257 2955.

Do I ever have to turn a memory foam mattress?

Memory foam mattresses should not be turned.  The foam will not distort or sag in its lifetime.  The mattress can be rotated if required.

How does the memory foam mattress compare with a spring mattress?

Innerspring beds use old-fashioned metal coils to provide support while you lay in bed. These springs are unable to conform to the unique curves of your body. When you aren't supported like you should be, you begin to develop aches and pain both in the skeletal system which results in muscular strain. These pains are what cause you to toss and turn. These disturbances prevent you from ever entering the deep sleep stages that are required for proper rest. A memory foam mattress will curve to the shape of your body through the heat sensitivity properties, hence reducing the pressure points on joints and muscles - a worthwhile investment for a proper relaxation and a great night’s sleep.

Memory Foam Mattresses : A buyer's guide

Beware of 'bedroom traders'
Research shows that many internet sites are run from people's homes and offer very little in the way of support or expertise. Check the contact details give them a call. You'll find many phone numbers go to mobiles or answer phones. We have professional, knowledgeable staff ready to take your call and answer any questions you may have.

Check the Depth & Density of the Memory Foam
You'll find that some mattress retailers don't even quote densities of foam that are on their mattresses. This is the single most important factor in your purchase. You should aim for 60kg/m3 density or above. All Healthy Mattress Company products are manufactured from the highest quality memory foam available and have a density of 70kg/m3.

Check for UK safety legislation compliance
There are, unfortunately, a handful of retailers that sell mattresses that DO NOT conform to UK safety legislation. Always ask for a fire certificate for the product. Do not put yourself and your family at risk for the sake of saving a few pounds. You may seriously regret it. All Healthy Mattress Company products FULLY CONFORM to all UK legislation.

Check the Depth & Density of the Base Foam
As with the top layer, this is a key measure of the support and comfort of the mattress. Check the density of the base foam is and make sure that it is at least 20kg/m3 density. Many high street retailers employ poorly trained staff who are geared towards hitting targets, rather than providing you with the best solution. Our experience gained within the medical marketplace gives us the knowledge required to manufacture effective and long lasting products, which is why the base foam in all our products has a density of 28kg/m3.
